You will be asked to write an essay. The multiple-choice component includes 49 questions on grammar usage, paragraph organization and multi-paragraph coherence, and assesses your ability to use language in a clear, consistent manner and to improve a piece of writing through revision and editing.

Breakdown

Apart from the essay, the questions in the writing section can be broadly classified into one of the following types...

Improving Sentences

Each question is either partially or fully underlined. The underlined part needs to be improvised. The first option is the same as the question, i.e. you select this option if you believe, the sentence in the question has no mistakes. Unlike these questions, the Critical Reading-Sentence Completion questions focus more on testing vocabulary.

Identifying sentence errors

Each question has multiple underlined parts. You will be asked to choose the part that has an error. If the sentence contains an error, select the one underlined part that must be changed to make the sentence correct. If the sentence is correct, select choice E. In choosing answers, follow the requirements of standard written English

Improving Paragraphs

The question contains a single or multiple paragraphs. You will be given multiple options to improve the paragraph. You are expected to choose the best option that applies.
