Critical reading questions test your ability to understand and use certain words. If you have a strong vocabulary, you will  find the questions in this section relatively easy. The questions in our critical reading test will be of varying difficulty and will not appear in any particular order. To help you guage how difficult a particular critical reading test question was, we show the percentage of students who got it correct.

Breakdown

The questions in the Critical reading section on the SAT can be broadly classified into one of the following types...

Sentence completion

There are 19 multiple-choice questions that test your vocabulary and your ability to understand fairly complex sentences. Unlike these questions, the Writing Section questions focus more on testing grammer.

Passage-based questions

There are 48 questions that are based on passages that range from 100 to 850 words. The content of the passages is drawn from the humanities, literary fiction, social studies, and natural sciences.
